About Ridmail

Why The Name?

Ridmail stands for "Required Identification Mail", or "Required ID Mail". The reason for this is because of the advanced spam elimination system Ridmail uses.

New sign ups are allowed by invitation only, at this time.

WebDisk

Ridmail has a feature called a "WebDisk", where you can store your files. The WebDisk has many advanced features including an online graphical web page editor. So, you can create, expand, and edit your web site without knowing anything about programming. You can also upload your existing web site if you already have one. The WebDisk is a great place to store any files you may need while on the go. Anywhere you can access the web, you can access your email, web site, and files.

Anything you put in the "public_html" folder on the webdisk, will be accessable via the public, by visiting your web site address. If you don't have a domain registered, the default address to your site is "http://www.ridmail.com/sites/YOUR_USER_NAME". You can use your default address, or we can setup your own domain.

Spam & Virus Control

Ridmail uses advanced spam and virus filters. In addition to the filtering systems, Ridmail uses a challenge/response system. When someone sends you an email for the first time, the email is held in a pending status. The sender is then sent a verification email. They simply have to reply to the verification email, and their original email is delivered to your inbox. They will also have their email address added to your allowed list, which will allow them to send all future email without verification. If you know a specific email address belongs to a spammer, simply add their address to your denied list. All future emails from them will be dropped.

The allowed and denied lists are located in the "RID" folder on the webdisk, for easy editing and management. The RID folder will also contain a pending messages folder which contains the actual messages that are waiting for verification.

You can send an email to your own email address with the subject of "list senders". This will return a list of the sender's addresses for your pending messages. You can also send an email to your own email address with "allow allowed_address@domain.com" with an email address you wish to allow. This will add the email address to the allowed list, and deliver any pending messages from the sender. To deny an address, you can send an email to yourself with the subject of "deny denied_address@domain.com". This will add their email address to the denied list and drop all future emails from them.

As a precautionary measure, the Trash folder will contain every email the system has received. This is done just to make sure there is a copy somewhere of all of your email, that you can access. In case you need to recover something that was sent to you, such as when someone doesn't verify their address, you can always find a copy of it in the Trash folder. Just remember, the Trash folder is scheduled to clear itself in the number of days set in your preferences (7 days by default). Any returned messages the system has received (MAILER-DAEMON messages), will be placed in the Trash folder as well. Typically, you might see several returned verification emails that are sent to spammers with bogus reply addresses.

The challenge/response system will keep the last 5 days worth of emails in the pending folder waiting to be verified by the sender. If the sender doesn't verify their email in at least 5 days, it will be deleted and they will have to resend it.

Checking Other Mail Services

Ridmail allows you to check your existing POP3 email accounts. Under your Preferences, you can add connections to multiple POP3 servers to download email from those remote systems. You can use your Ridmail account to utilize your existing POP3 email account.
